One of my favorite artists is being honored by Google today. Go and play with one of Calders mobiles!

I posted this long ago, time for a revisit.
This is Alexander Calder standing in front of the ‘75 BMW 3.0 CSL Art Car which he designed. His usual work is in the background. He stands as if saying, “Yeah, I did this… What!”

In my art I am very interested in the balance of function and aesthetic. Wonderful aesthetic can be a part of any piece with a slight alteration of the structure, some strategic use of texture or just letting the clay be clay. I enjoy using these techniques in my pottery as I continue striving for the perfect balance of function and aesthetic, even though that perfection is unattainable.
Once I complete a piece, my ultimate dream for that piece to be used and appreciated. Hearing someone compliment any part of any of my creations is what I look forward to.
As an artist I am inspired by Dale Chihuly. His sculptural, organic looking chandeliers and various glassworks are some of the most impressive and serendipitous works I have seen. Another artist I have great appreciation for is Alexander Calder. His technical expertise shows me that any structural issue in a piece can be solved and be beautiful.
